Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has declared that Nigeria is determined to successfully defend the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title at the 2026 tournament in Morocco.

The Super Falcons head into the competition as defending champions after lifting the trophy in the previous edition, also hosted by Morocco, and Okronkwo believes the team is motivated to make history by retaining the continental crown.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, the forward admitted there would be pressure on the team but stressed that the players are fully focused on achieving another triumph.

“We want to repeat history and win it again. It is always good to win back-to-back titles. There is pressure, but we want to retain the trophy,” Okoronkwo told CAF.

She also emphasized the importance of teamwork, attitude, and mentality as key ingredients for another successful campaign.

“My role is to help the team, just as I expect the other ten players on the field to do. Attitude and mentality will play a huge part. As long as we all have the right attitude and mentality, we will be fine,” she added.

The Super Falcons will begin their title defence in Morocco aiming to extend their dominance in African women’s football and secure another continental championship.
