Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) have received a significant boost following the return of forward Esther Okoronkwo from injury.

Okoronkwo made her first competitive appearance since suffering a meniscus injury in May, featuring for 25 minutes as a second-half substitute in AFC Toronto’s victory over Vancouver Rise.

The forward’s return comes at a crucial time for the Super Falcons as they continue their build-up to the continental tournament, where Nigeria will be aiming to reclaim the African title.

The nine-time African champions have been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Malawi and Zambia, with Okoronkwo’s return providing an additional attacking option for the team’s campaign.

Her successful comeback will be a welcome development for the Super Falcons’ technical crew as preparations intensify ahead of the competition.
