Algeria and Morocco have secured qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup after both North African nations recorded hard-fought victories in their respective quarter-final matches at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Algeria produced one of the biggest surprises of the tournament, defeating Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in the opening quarter-final to book their place in the last four.
Morocco followed suit with a 2-1 victory over defending champions South Africa, popularly known as Banyana Banyana, to secure their passage to the semi-finals.
The two quarter-final victories also earned Algeria and Morocco automatic tickets to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
For Algeria, the qualification is historic as the North African country will make its debut at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Both teams will now turn their attention to the WAFCON semi-finals as they continue their quest for continental glory on home soil.
