Team Nigeria concluded its campaign at the United World Wrestling Ranking Series in Mongolia with an impressive haul of three medals, as Damola Hannah Ojo and Esther Kolawole added to Christianah Ogunsanya’s earlier success on the final day of competition.

The Nigerian contingent saw three of its four representatives finish on the podium, underlining the country’s growing strength in international wrestling.

Damola Hannah Ojo secured a silver medal after an outstanding run to the final.

She began her campaign with a dominant 10-0 superiority victory over Mongolia’s Tuvshinjargal Tarav before overcoming India’s Priya 5-1 in the semi-finals.

However, Ojo had to settle for second place after suffering an 8-0 defeat to India’s Kajal Kajal in the gold medal match.

Esther Kolawole also delivered an impressive performance to claim a bronze medal. She opened her tournament with a commanding 10-0 victory against China’s Huan Yang before producing one of the biggest upsets of the competition, defeating world number one Amina Tandelova of Russia 6-0.

Kolawole’s hopes of reaching the final were dashed by a narrow 5-4 semi-final defeat to North Korea’s Kim Ok-Ju.

The medals won by Ojo and Kolawole added to Christianah Ogunsanya’s earlier podium finish, ensuring Team Nigeria returned home with three medals from the prestigious ranking event in Mongolia.
