Nigerian-born South Africa defender Ime Okon has reaffirmed his commitment to Bafana Bafana, insisting that he has no regrets about choosing to represent South Africa instead of Nigeria at international level.

Okon has emerged as one of South Africa’s standout performers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite Bafana Bafana’s mixed campaign in the tournament.

Speaking in an interview with sports journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, the defender made it clear that South Africa remains the country closest to his heart.

“I don’t know what to say, but at the end of the day, I know where my heart lies. I have played for South Africa in the COSAFA games and I scored,” Okon said.

“South Africa is everything to me. I don’t know anything besides South Africa. That is home.”

When asked whether he would consider switching allegiance if Nigeria approached him, Okon dismissed the possibility.

“No, not really. But even if they call me, South Africa is my home. That’s what I have to say,” he added.

The defender’s comments are likely to end any speculation about a potential future switch to the Super Eagles, as he remains fully committed to representing South Africa on the international stage.
