Morocco boosted their chances of reaching the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Scotland in their Group C encounter at Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Friday.

The North Africans got off to a dream start as midfielder Ismael Saibari scored the game’s only goal in just the second minute. The attacker unleashed a powerful angled strike that beat the Scottish goalkeeper and left the Europeans stunned.

Despite Scotland’s efforts to find an equaliser, Morocco held firm throughout the contest to record their first win of the tournament and claim three valuable points.

The victory sees Morocco move level with Group C leaders Brazil on four points. However, the South Americans remain top of the standings courtesy of a superior goal difference.

Morocco will now turn their attention to their final group match against Haiti on June 24, knowing another positive result could secure a place in the next round.

Scotland, meanwhile, face a difficult task in their last group fixture as they take on Brazil in Miami, with their World Cup hopes hanging in the balance.
