Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has revealed that he is more interested in pursuing a career in football administration than taking up coaching after retirement.

The retired defender said he believes former players can make a greater impact by occupying leadership positions within football governing bodies rather than staying on the sidelines as coaches.

Speaking with Brila FM, Ekong explained that while many people have encouraged him to consider coaching the Nigerian national team, his ambition lies elsewhere.

“A lot of people ask me about coaching the national team, but I’m not sure that’s what I really want to do.

“I think we also need former players in the boardroom, working with the NFF, CAF and FIFA, because that’s where you can make the biggest change,” Ekong said.

The former Super Eagles skipper believes increased representation of ex-professional footballers in football administration will help shape policies and drive meaningful development across the game.
