Nigeria’s Abduljabar Adama has secured a place in the men’s 50m freestyle semifinals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after an impressive performance in the heats.
The Nigerian national record holder clocked 22.67 seconds to finish third in his heat, booking his place in the next round of the competition.
Adama finished behind Australia’s Flynn Southam, who won the heat in 22.03 seconds, while England’s Jacob Mills placed second with a time of 22.40 seconds.
Fellow Nigerian Clinton Opute also featured in the event, finishing sixth in his heat with a time of 23.15 seconds.
Although he missed out on automatic qualification, Opute is currently listed as the second reserve for the semifinals and could still earn a place in the next round should any qualified swimmer withdraw.
Adama will now aim to continue his impressive form when he competes in the semifinal later in the competition.
