Nigeria’s Folashade Oluwafemiayo delivered a sensational performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, breaking her own world record twice on her way to winning the women’s para powerlifting gold medal.
The Nigerian star produced a remarkable lift of 175kg to set a new world record, surpassing the previous mark she had established earlier in the competition. The historic effort, the heaviest lift ever recorded in women’s para powerlifting, earned her a total of 134.8 points and the gold medal.
Oluwafemiayo’s triumph capped a dominant outing for Team Nigeria, which secured a one-two finish in the event.
Rita Ferdinand claimed the silver medal after also rewriting the record books, lifting 158kg to set a new world record in her weight class.
The outstanding performances by Oluwafemiayo and Ferdinand further underlined Nigeria’s dominance in para powerlifting, with both athletes leaving Glasgow as world record holders and Commonwealth Games medallists.
