Lionel Messi is set to expand his football investment portfolio after reaching an agreement in principle to acquire 100% of Spanish LaLiga 2 side CD Eldense.
According to reports from AS and other Spanish media, Messi has been negotiating with the Colombian investment group TH, led by Juan Carlos Trujillo, which currently owns the club. The deal would see the Argentine become the sole owner of Eldense.
The acquisition is still subject to the completion of due diligence and other legal and contractual procedures, including approval from Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD). The deal is expected to be formally completed in the coming days.
The move would mark Messi’s second investment in Spanish football in 2026, following his acquisition of Catalan club UE Cornellà, which currently competes in the lower divisions.
Messi’s proposed takeover of Eldense represents his growing interest in football ownership as he continues to build his business portfolio beyond his playing career.
