Team Nigeria’s mixed 4x100m relay team produced an impressive performance at the ongoing World Relays in Botswana, finishing fourth in Heat 1 while securing qualification for next year’s World Championship in China.
The Nigerian quartet made up of Favour Ashe, Jennifer Chukwuka-Obi, Chidera Ezeakor and Maria Thompson clocked a remarkable time of 40.24 seconds to place fourth in a highly competitive race.
Team Nigeria was in contention for victory heading into the final exchange before eventually finishing behind Canada, Germany and the Netherlands.
Their time, however, was enough to earn qualification for the 2027 World Championships in China while also setting a new African Record in the event.
Canada stormed to victory with a stunning World Record time of 40.07 seconds, while Germany finished second in 40.15 seconds and the Netherlands came third in 40.20 seconds.
The performance marks another major achievement for Nigerian athletics as the country continues to impress on the global stage at the championship in Gaborone, Botswana.
