Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been seeded in Pot 1 for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed on Monday evening.

The official seeding places Nigeria among Africa’s 12 highest-ranked teams, giving the three-time African champions a significantly favourable position ahead of Tuesday’s qualifying draw.

Pot 1 Teams (Top Seeds):
Nigeria
Morocco
Senegal
DR Congo
Egypt
Tunisia
South Africa
Cameroon
Mali
Algeria
Côte d’Ivoire
Burkina Faso

Placement in Pot 1 means the Super Eagles will avoid clashes with fellow heavyweights in the group stage, increasing their chances of securing a smoother path to qualification for the 2027 tournament.

The remaining participating nations have been spread across Pots 2, 3, and 4. The draw ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, where the group compositions for the qualifiers will be decided.

Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda were earlier confirmed as the joint hosts of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria will be looking to leverage their strong seeding and recent competitive form as they aim to qualify for the expanded tournament and mount another title challenge.
