Nigeria’s top track and field athletes will battle for national honours and a chance to represent the country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games as the official National Trials are scheduled to hold in Lagos from June 20 to 22.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has confirmed that the high-stakes trials will take place at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex.

The event will serve as the primary selection process for Team Nigeria’s squad heading to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this year.

According to the official programme, athletes and officials are expected to arrive in Lagos on Thursday, June 19. Competition will run for three days from Friday, June 20 to Sunday, June 22, with departure scheduled for Monday, June 23.

The trials are expected to draw the country’s finest track and field talents, all competing fiercely for limited spots on the national team.

With places on the line for the prestigious multi-sport event, officials anticipate intense performances as athletes push to meet qualification standards and earn the right to wear Nigeria’s colours in Glasgow.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will bring together elite athletes from across the Commonwealth nations, making the Lagos trials a crucial stepping stone for Nigeria’s medal hopefuls.

Further details regarding specific events, entry lists, and technical requirements are expected to be released by the federation in the coming days.
