Head coach of the Nigeria women’s national team, Justin Madugu, has explained why the Super Falcons were unable to play friendly matches during the recent FIFA international window.
Speaking in an interview with Brila FM, Madugu revealed that the team had approached several countries for friendly games, but many nations were unwilling to face African opposition.
“We’ve made approaches to more than five countries, but some are not willing to play African teams. We’re not happy about it because it’s not helping our preparations,” Madugu said.
The coach further explained that many European nations are prioritising matches against fellow European sides due to the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
“Some European teams are more focused on playing against European teams because of their World Cup qualifiers,” he added.
The Super Falcons are currently preparing for upcoming international competitions, including the next edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
