Crisis rocks Dutch league, awaits court judgement

The Dutch football league could be thrown into chaos following an ongoing legal dispute that may lead to the replay of more than 100 matches this season.

The controversy began after NAC Breda lodged a complaint following their 6-0 defeat to Go Ahead Eagles, alleging that the club fielded a player without a valid work permit.

A court is expected to deliver a ruling on Monday, and the outcome could have major consequences across Dutch football.

If the court rules in favour of NAC Breda, the match could be replayed, opening the door for several other clubs to challenge results involving players with similar documentation issues.

Reports indicate that around 133 matches could potentially be affected, with approximately 11 players from eight different clubs allegedly participating in games without the required permits.

The issue reportedly emerged after some players switched their international allegiance to countries such as Indonesia, Suriname and Cape Verde.

Due to nationality regulations in those countries, the players were no longer considered European Union citizens and were therefore required to obtain work permits to continue playing in the Netherlands.

Among the players mentioned in the reports are Kenzo Goudmijn and Dean James.

Should the court confirm the violations, the Dutch league could face one of the biggest administrative crises in its history, with several results from the current season potentially overturned or replayed.
