The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially opened the bidding process for the hosting rights of the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with several countries already indicating their interest in staging the continent’s biggest football tournament.
Among the early contenders are Ethiopia, Morocco, and a joint bid from Botswana and South Africa, setting the stage for a competitive race to host the prestigious championship.
The bidding process marks the beginning of CAF’s search for a suitable host nation capable of delivering a successful tournament, with interested countries expected to submit their proposals in line with the governing body’s requirements.
Morocco, which has extensive experience in hosting major international football competitions, is among the favourites, while Ethiopia is seeking to bring the tournament back to East Africa.
Botswana and South Africa have also teamed up in a joint bid, hoping to leverage their combined infrastructure and football heritage.
