Nigerian sprint sensation Kanyinsola Ajayi delivered a historic performance at the NCAA Championships, blazing to victory in the men’s 100m final with a sensational time of 9.72 seconds.
Although the race was run with a tailwind of 2.2m/s, slightly above the legal limit of 2.0m/s required for record purposes, Ajayi’s remarkable performance further underlines his status as one of the world’s fastest sprinters.
The outstanding run solidifies Ajayi’s position as the fastest Nigerian man in history under all conditions and ranks him as the second-fastest all-conditions NCAA performer ever.
Ajayi also etched his name into Nigerian athletics folklore by becoming only the second Nigerian athlete to win the NCAA men’s 100m title, following in the footsteps of Divine Oduduru, who achieved the feat in 2019.
The historic victory marks another significant milestone for Nigerian sprinting, highlighting the country’s growing influence on the global track and field stage.
With his exceptional speed and continued development, Ajayi’s achievement signals the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Nigerian athletics.
His NCAA triumph not only showcases his immense talent but also serves as inspiration for the next generation of Nigerian sprinters aiming to make their mark on the international scene.
