Team Nigeria’s athletics campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has suffered another major setback following the withdrawal of sprinter Blessing Ogundiran due to health challenges.

Ogundiran’s absence comes just days after fellow athlete Israel Okon was also ruled out of the competition because of injury, leaving Nigeria’s track and field team depleted ahead of key events.

The latest withdrawal significantly reduces Nigeria’s options in the women’s 100m, with experienced sprinter Rosemary Chukwuma and teenage debutant Miracle Ezechukwu now expected to shoulder the country’s medal hopes in the blue-riband event.

Team Nigeria will be hoping the duo can rise to the occasion as the nation continues its quest for success on the athletics track despite the unfortunate setbacks.
