Defending champions Argentina booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a hard-fought 3-1 extra-time victory over Switzerland.

The Albiceleste took the lead in the first half through Alexis Mac Allister, who gave Lionel Scaloni’s side a deserved advantage before the break.

Switzerland responded strongly in the second half, with Dan Ndoye finding the equaliser to force the knockout encounter into extra time.

Argentina, however, showed their championship pedigree as Julián Álvarez restored their lead before Lautaro Martínez sealed the victory with a late goal in extra time.

The result keeps Argentina’s title defence alive and sets up a mouth-watering semi-final showdown against England.

The Three Lions secured their place in the last four earlier after edging Norway 2-1 in their quarter-final encounter.
