Six of Nigeria’s top track and field athletes will compete at the prestigious Prefontaine Classic, one of the stops on the Diamond League circuit, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, this weekend.
The impressive contingent could represent Nigeria’s highest-ever participation at a single Diamond League meeting, as the athletes prepare to take on some of the world’s best competitors.
The action begins on Friday, July 3, with Ella Onojuvwevwo competing in the women’s 400 metres.
On Saturday, July 4, five more Nigerians will be in action. Favour Ofili and Kanyinsola Ajayi will feature in the women’s and men’s 100 metres respectively, while Ezekiel Nathaniel is set to compete in the men’s 400 metres.
African record holder Tobi Amusan will line up in the women’s 100 metres hurdles, while Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will represent Nigeria in the men’s shot put.
The Prefontaine Classic is regarded as one of the most competitive meetings on the global athletics calendar, providing Nigerian athletes with another opportunity to test themselves against elite international opposition ahead of upcoming major championships.
