England staged a dramatic second-half comeback to defeat DR Congo 2-1 and book their place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ending the African nation’s hopes of progressing in the tournament.
DR Congo made a dream start to the Round of 32 encounter when Cipenga fired them into the lead in the seventh minute.
The Leopards produced a disciplined defensive display and held their advantage until the halftime break, frustrating England’s attacking line.
However, England captain Harry Kane once again proved decisive when his team needed him most. The striker restored parity in the 75th minute before completing the turnaround with his second goal of the match in the 86th minute.
Kane’s late brace secured a 2-1 victory for the Three Lions and sent them through to the Round of 16, while DR Congo bowed out of the competition after a spirited performance that ultimately fell just short.
