The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has invited 29 athletes to the national camp in Abuja as preparations intensify for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The list comprises 14 male and 15 female athletes selected based on their performances at the recently concluded National Athletics Trials held in Lagos. Athletes who were unable to participate in the trials due to visa-related issues were also considered based on their previous performances and records.

According to the AFN, all invited athletes are expected to report to camp from Thursday, June 25, 2026, where final preparations for the Games will commence.

Nigeria is set to compete in 18 events at the Commonwealth Games, including the men’s 4x100m relay, women’s 4x100m relay, and the mixed 4x400m relay events.

The camping programme is expected to provide the athletes with the necessary technical and physical preparation as Team Nigeria aims to challenge for medals in Glasgow.

The Commonwealth Games will offer another opportunity for Nigeria’s track and field stars to showcase their talents on the international stage and continue the country’s proud tradition in athletics.
