Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho will not be making a competitive return to football despite reports linking him with Italian Serie C side Ravenna FC.
The former World Player of the Year, now 46, recently signed an agreement with Ravenna FC, sparking speculation that he was set to come out of retirement and feature for the club during the 2026/27 season.
However, Ravenna’s honorary vice-president, Ariedo Braida, has clarified that Ronaldinho’s involvement is strictly promotional and will not extend to on-field action.
Speaking on the matter, Braida explained that the Brazilian icon’s role is centered on marketing activities aimed at boosting the club’s profile and commercial appeal.
“Ronaldinho will do a marketing event with us, but he won’t play for Ravenna in Serie C next season. I wish he were still able to play,” Braida said.
The clarification puts an end to rumours of a competitive comeback by the former FC Barcelona and AC Milan star, who retired from professional football several years ago after an illustrious career that included winning the FIFA World Cup with Brazil national football team in 2002.
While fans will not see Ronaldinho back on the pitch, his association with Ravenna FC is expected to generate significant attention for the Italian club ahead of the new season.
