Maktown Flyers guard Thomas Okoh has reflected on the team’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 Basketball Africa League Sahara Conference after the Nigerian champions crashed out of the competition.

Maktown Flyers endured a difficult outing in the tournament, managing just one victory in five games to finish outside the playoff places.

The Nigerian side suffered their final defeat against ASC De Dakar on Sunday evening, a result which officially ended their hopes of progressing to the next stage of the competition.

Speaking after the game, Okoh admitted that the Senegalese side showed more determination and composure throughout the encounter.

“They wanted it more than we did. We didn’t put in enough effort to win the game. We were slow, whereas they were ready to get the job done,” Okoh said.

The guard also acknowledged that Maktown Flyers struggled to find consistency during the tournament and failed to play to their strengths.

“We haven’t played the right way since the beginning of this competition. I believe this was our lowest-scoring game so far. They play as a unit and don’t rush their plays, maintaining their own pace,” he added.

Maktown Flyers’ exit means Nigeria will not have a representative in the playoff stage of the 2026 BAL season.
