FIBA Women’s World Cup: D’Tigress drawn in tough group

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have been handed a challenging draw for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 following the official group allocations released by FIBA.

The African champions, who qualified for the tournament after a dominant run that saw them clinch the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship title five consecutive times, have been placed in Group B.

D’Tigress will face a strong lineup of opponents including France women’s national basketball team, Hungary women’s national basketball team, and South Korea women’s national basketball team.

In other groups, host nation Germany women’s national basketball team headline Group A alongside Japan women’s national basketball team, Spain women’s national basketball team, and Mali women’s national basketball team.

Group C features Belgium women’s national basketball team, Australia women’s national basketball team, Puerto Rico women’s national basketball team, and Turkey women’s national basketball team.

Meanwhile, Group D comprises global powerhouse United States women’s national basketball team, China women’s national basketball team, Czech Republic women’s national basketball team, and Italy women’s national basketball team.

The tournament is expected to showcase elite women’s basketball, with Nigeria aiming to build on their continental dominance on the global stage.
