Algeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign came to an end in the early hours of Friday after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in their Round of 32 clash.

Switzerland made a dream start to the encounter, with Breel Embolo opening the scoring in the 10th minute to put the European side in control.

The Swiss doubled their advantage immediately after the restart when Dan Ndoye found the back of the net in the 46th minute, leaving Algeria with a mountain to climb.

Despite the Desert Foxes’ determined efforts to get back into the contest, Switzerland remained resolute at the back and comfortably saw out the victory.

The result sends Switzerland through to the Round of 16, while Algeria bow out of the tournament after an impressive run to the knockout stage.
