Senegal has suffered a setback ahead of their FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 clash against Belgium after confirmation that first-choice goalkeeper Édouard Mendy left the team’s camp for further medical evaluation.
Mendy departed the Lions of Teranga camp on Sunday night to undergo a detailed assessment of his injury with the medical staff of his Saudi Arabian club, Al Ahli.
The update from the Senegal camp is, however, encouraging, with the experienced shot-stopper expected to miss Wednesday’s crucial knockout encounter against Belgium.
According to the team’s medical plan, a rehabilitation and care protocol has been agreed upon between the Senegal Football Federation and Al Ahli to ensure Mendy’s safe recovery and facilitate his return to competitive action.
