Nigeria’s Super Falcons underlined their status as title contenders at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a dominant 5-0 victory over Zambia to book their place in the semi-finals.
The Falcons flew out of the blocks and took an early lead through Osinachi Ohale, setting the tone for a commanding performance. Esther Okoronkwo doubled Nigeria’s advantage, before Chiwendu Ihezuo added a third just before halftime.
Zambia’s Shepolopolo attempted a fightback in the second half but were repeatedly denied by Nigeria’s rock-solid defence, marshalled by the impressive Ohale.
Tosin Demehin made it 4-0 with a well-taken effort, and substitute Folashade Ijamilusi sealed the emphatic win with a fifth, capping a statement performance from the nine-time African champions.
