The United States retained their Women’s Basketball World Cup title after defeating France 97-79 in the final on Sunday.
The Americans were given a strong challenge by France in the opening exchanges, with the European side making a bright start and putting the defending champions under pressure.
However, the United States gradually settled into the contest, found their rhythm and took control of the game to secure another World Cup triumph.
Breanna Stewart was outstanding for the champions, finishing with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Jackie Young contributed 18 points.
Kahleah Copper added 15 points, with Caitlin Clark scoring 12 points as the United States maintained their dominance on the international stage.
France were led by Dominique Malonga, who top-scored for her team with 21 points, while Gabby Williams finished with 20 points.
The victory further underlined the United States’ status as the leading force in women’s international basketball, as they successfully defended their World Cup crown.
