Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) authorities have imposed strict sanctions on Bendel Insurance and their head coach, Kennedy Boboye, following the incident that occurred after their match against Plateau United.
According to the league body, Bendel Insurance FC have been fined ₦5 million and will play their next three home matches behind closed doors as part of disciplinary measures aimed at addressing misconduct and ensuring order in the league.
In addition, head coach Kennedy Boboye received a significant punishment, as he was handed a ₦2 million fine alongside a 17-match ban from all NPFL-related activities.
The sanctions come in response to post-match events deemed to have breached league regulations, with the NPFL reiterating its commitment to maintaining discipline, professionalism, and safety across all match venues.
Bendel Insurance are yet to officially respond to the ruling, while the penalties are expected to have a considerable impact on the team’s campaign moving forward.
