Nigeria’s young athletes shine at CAA region II championships in Dakar

Nigeria’s young athletes delivered an impressive performance at the ongoing U18/U20 CAA Region II Championships in Dakar, Senegal, claiming multiple gold medals and recording personal bests in several events.

Rosemary Chigozie Nwankwo emerged champion in the girls’ U18 100 metres, clocking a new personal best of 11.35 seconds to secure the gold medal.

In the U20 women’s 100 metres, Lucy Chiamaka Nwankwo also struck gold with a personal best time of 11.41 seconds, underlining Nigeria’s dominance in the sprint events.

The success continued in the men’s U20 100 metres, where Tejiri Godwin sprinted to victory in a time of 10.35 seconds to claim another gold medal for Team Nigeria.

Nigeria also excelled in the U18 women’s 400 metres, with Faith Ezechukwu winning the gold medal, while Jecinta Lawrence finished second to complete a one-two finish for the country by claiming the silver medal.

The outstanding performances reinforce Nigeria’s strength in youth athletics as the championships continue in Dakar.
