Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi has expressed his disappointment following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The Nigerian national team missed out on securing a place at the global showpiece despite having opportunities to keep their qualification hopes alive during the campaign.
Reflecting on the painful setback, the OGC Nice striker admitted that several members of the current squad may never get another chance to feature at football’s biggest tournament.
“I’m 27 now, and in the next World Cup I’ll be 31. Most of the squad will also be in their 30s by then. It’s almost impossible for us to be there if we’re being totally honest,” Moffi said.
“For some of us, we might have to watch from home. How do we tell our children that we had two chances to be at the World Cup and we didn’t take it?
“It’s horrible to think about.”
Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after losing to Ghana on the away goals rule in the final playoff round.
The Super Eagles are also facing an uphill task in their quest to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Moffi’s comments underline the frustration within the squad as they continue to battle to restore Nigeria’s presence on the biggest stage in international football.
