Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses in an international friendly match played on Friday in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The nine-time African champions took the lead in the 31st minute through experienced forward Asisat Oshoala, who calmly converted from the penalty spot to give the hosts a deserved advantage.
Nigeria doubled their lead before the break when Toni Payne found the back of the net, putting the Super Falcons in a comfortable position heading into halftime.
Senegal returned for the second half with renewed determination and created several opportunities.
Their persistence paid off late in the game as they pulled a goal back to reduce the deficit.
Despite the late pressure from the visitors, the Super Falcons held on to claim a 2-1 win and continue their preparations for upcoming international assignments.
Both teams will meet again on Monday in a second friendly match at the same venue in Ikenne.
