The Dallas Mavericks have appointed Nigerian basketball executive Masai Ujiri as the club’s new President and Alternate Governor as the franchise looks to rebuild into a championship contender.
Ujiri will oversee all basketball operations for the Mavericks, including roster construction, player personnel and scouting, while also working closely with the team’s leadership on the organisation’s long-term direction.
The highly respected executive arrives in Dallas after more than a decade in senior NBA front office leadership, most recently serving as Vice Chairman and President of the Toronto Raptors.
During his time in Toronto, Ujiri led the Raptors to their first NBA championship in 2019, cementing his reputation as one of the league’s top basketball executives.
Before joining Toronto, Ujiri worked with the Denver Nuggets, where he earned the NBA Executive of the Year award for his impressive work in building the team’s roster.
He began his NBA career as an international scout with the Orlando Magic and later the Nuggets before rising through the ranks to become one of the most influential figures in global basketball.
The Mavericks believe Ujiri’s experience and leadership will play a major role in shaping the franchise’s future ambitions in the NBA.
