Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid has clarified why Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman was substituted during the Copa del Rey Final against Real Sociedad.
The winger was taken off during the encounter, raising concerns about his fitness. In a statement released on Monday, the club confirmed that Lookman experienced discomfort during the match.
According to Atletico Madrid, medical assessments carried out after the game indicated the need for caution to prevent a potential injury.
“Ademola Lookman and Alexander Sørloth finished the Copa del Rey final with discomfort,” the club stated.
“The club’s medical staff have conducted tests that advise maximum caution to avoid the risk of injury, so they will follow an individualized plan in the coming days, training separately from the group. Their return to training with their teammates will depend on how their discomfort progresses.”
The update suggests that both players will be monitored closely, with their reintegration into full team training dependent on their recovery in the coming days.
