Junior D’Tigress advance to round of 16 despite loss to Portugal

Nigeria’s U-19 women’s basketball team, the Junior D’Tigress, have secured a spot in the round of 16 at the FIBA U-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup, despite falling to Portugal in their final Group B match on Tuesday.

Still reeling from a heavy loss to Canada, the Nigerian side couldn’t recover as they suffered a 79–61 defeat to the Portuguese.

With one win and two losses, Nigeria finished third in Group B.

Canada topped the group with a perfect record, winning all three of their games. Portugal took second place, while China ended in fourth.

Meanwhile, in Group A, Hungary finished second behind the United States, after registering two wins and a loss.
