Former Premier League referee Anthony Taylor has been appointed as the Turkish Football Federation’s new Director of Elite Refereeing, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his career following his retirement from officiating.
The 47-year-old officially stepped away from refereeing after the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will now take charge of the strategic and technical development of elite refereeing in Turkey.
In his new role, Taylor will oversee the improvement of refereeing standards, mentor top match officials, and help implement modern officiating practices aimed at enhancing the quality and consistency of refereeing across Turkish football.
Taylor enjoyed one of the most distinguished refereeing careers in English football, taking charge of numerous high-profile domestic and international matches before bringing his on-field career to a close after the World Cup.
His appointment is expected to strengthen the Turkish Football Federation’s efforts to further develop its elite refereeing structure.
