Defending champions Nigeria have secured a place in the final of the U-15 Boys’ Team event at the ITTF African Youth Championship after edging hosts Ghana 3-2 in a thrilling semi-final encounter.
Nigeria, who entered the competition as favourites, were pushed to the limit by a determined Ghanaian side in front of their home supporters. However, the resilience and brilliance of Umar Ayoola proved decisive as the young star recorded two vital victories to inspire the team to the hard-fought triumph.
The closely contested tie saw both teams exchange wins before Nigeria eventually sealed the decisive point to book a spot in the final and keep alive their hopes of retaining the title.
Ayoola’s outstanding performances under pressure once again highlighted Nigeria’s strength in youth table tennis as the defending champions moved one step closer to another continental crown.
Nigeria will now shift focus to the final, where they will aim to successfully defend the U-15 Boys’ Team title and extend their dominance in African youth table tennis.
