South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United have officially confirmed the return of Nigerian international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali ahead of the new season.
The Eastern Cape-based club announced the shot-stopper’s return in a statement on Sunday, expressing their delight at welcoming him back to the team after his time away from the club.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys. After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club,” the statement read.
Nwabali had been linked with a move away from Chippa United following his impressive performances for both club and country, particularly with Nigeria’s Super Eagles. However, after failing to secure a transfer, the 29-year-old goalkeeper has now rejoined the Chilli Boys as they continue preparations for the upcoming campaign.
His return is expected to provide a major boost to Chippa United, with the experienced goalkeeper set to reclaim his place between the posts as the club targets a strong showing in the new South African top-flight season.
