Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, began their campaign in the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers with a hard-fought 84-81 victory over Tunisia.

The closely contested encounter saw Nigeria’s experienced players rise to the occasion, with Chimezie Metu and Ike Iroegbu leading the scoring charts with 17 points each.

Wes Iwundu also made a significant contribution, adding 14 points, while Uche Iroegbu chipped in with 13 points to help D’Tigers secure the crucial opening win.

The victory gives Nigeria a positive start in the three-game qualifying window as they continue their quest for a place at the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

With confidence boosted by the opening success, D’Tigers will now shift their focus to their remaining qualification fixtures.
