Tunisia became the first African nation to be eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a crushing 4-0 defeat to Japan in their second Group Stage match.

The Asian side made a dream start, taking the lead as early as the fourth minute to put the Carthage Eagles under immediate pressure.

Japan doubled their advantage before halftime through Ayase Ueda, leaving Tunisia with a mountain to climb heading into the second half.

The Samurai Blue continued their dominance after the break, with Junya Ito adding a third goal midway through the second period.

Ueda then completed his brace in the 83rd minute, sealing an emphatic 4-0 victory for Japan.

The defeat confirmed Tunisia’s exit from the tournament after they had also suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Sweden in their opening group match.

With two defeats from two games, the North Africans can no longer progress to the knockout stage, making them the first African team to crash out of the competition.

Tunisia will now look to salvage some pride when they take on the Netherlands in their final Group Stage fixture on Thursday.
