Nigeria’s medal campaign at the 2026 African Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana received a major boost on Wednesday as Tobi Amusan stormed to gold in the women’s 100m hurdles event.

The world record holder delivered a dominant performance to secure Nigeria’s first gold medal of the championship, further extending her impressive record on the continental stage.

Amusan showed her class from the start of the race, powering through the hurdles with ease to finish ahead of the rest of the field and reclaim the African title.

Compatriot Adaobi Tabugbo also impressed in the event, producing a brilliant start before holding on strongly to claim the bronze medal in a fiercely contested race.

The double podium finish marked another successful outing for Team Nigeria at the championship as the country continues its push for more medals in Ghana.
