WNBA side Atlanta Dream have signed Nigeria’s D’Tigress star and AfroBasket MVP Amy Okonkwo to a developmental contract ahead of the new season.
The move represents another major milestone for the Nigerian forward, who has been one of the standout performers for the national women’s basketball team in recent years.
Okonkwo played a key role in Nigeria’s dominance on the African continent and was named the Most Valuable Player at the Women’s AfroBasket Championship following her impressive performances for D’Tigress.
Her arrival at Atlanta Dream is also expected to provide a major boost for Nigeria ahead of the upcoming FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany later in the year.
The signing further highlights the growing recognition of Nigerian women’s basketball talents on the global stage as more D’Tigress players continue to secure opportunities in top international leagues.
