Nigerian sprinter Favour Ashe secured qualification for the men’s 100m semifinals in the ongoing African Athletics Championship after successfully overturning an initial disqualification for a false start.
Ashe was originally disqualified during the heats, but Team Nigeria lodged an appeal which was upheld, allowing the athlete to return to the track for a solo rerun.
Running alone, Ashe clocked 10.55 seconds to finish 24th overall and book his place in Wednesday’s semifinals.
The performance ensured Nigeria maintained representation in the men’s 100m event despite the earlier setback.
