History-making Sinner thrashes Zverev to win Madrid masters

World number one Jannik Sinner delivered another dominant performance on Sunday night, defeating Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-2 to win the Madrid Open title.

The Italian star was in complete control throughout the final, overpowering Zverev in straight sets to continue his remarkable run in ATP Masters events.

With the victory, Sinner became the first man in history to win five consecutive Masters titles, further underlining his dominance on the ATP Tour.

The triumph also extended his incredible statistics against Zverev, having now won 13 consecutive sets, nine straight matches and 65 consecutive service games against the German.

Sinner has now won 28 consecutive matches in Masters tournaments and 23 matches in a row overall.

The Madrid triumph is the 9th Masters title of his career and the 28th ATP title overall.

The 24-year-old has also won 56 of the last 58 sets he has played in Masters events and 45 of his last 47 matches, cementing his status as the most dominant player currently on the tour.
