The FIBA Central Board has officially awarded the hosting rights for the 2031 FIBA Basketball World Cup to France, marking a major return of the global showpiece to European soil.
According to the announcement, three host cities Lille, Lyon, and Paris will stage matches during the tournament, scheduled to run from August 29 to September 14, 2031.
The French capital, Paris, will take center stage for the decisive phase of the competition, including the semifinals and final, where the next world champion will be crowned.
France’s selection reflects its proven capacity to host major international sporting events, backed by world-class infrastructure and a strong basketball culture.
The multi-city format is also expected to maximize fan engagement across the country while showcasing different regions.
The 2031 edition will bring together the world’s top basketball nations in what is anticipated to be another highly competitive tournament under the global governing body.
