World football governing body FIFA has confirmed the appointment of Egyptian referee Amin Mohamed Omar to take charge of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter between Nigeria and Benin Republic.
The much-anticipated clash is scheduled for October 14 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
According to FIFA’s appointment list, Omar will be assisted by his compatriots. Mahmoud Ahmed Kamel will serve as Assistant Referee 1, while Ahmed Tawfik Taleb has been named Assistant Referee 2. The fourth official is also from Egypt, ensuring an all-Egyptian refereeing team for the fixture.
In addition, Ghana’s Prosper Addo has been designated as the Match Commissioner for the encounter.
The match is of great significance as Nigeria’s Super Eagles look to secure maximum points in their qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
