Spain capped off a memorable 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign by defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time in Sunday’s final to lift the prestigious trophy for the second time in their history.

La Roja controlled much of the encounter and eventually found the breakthrough in the second period of extra time. Substitute Ferran Torres emerged as the match-winner, firing home from a Nico Williams knockdown to seal Spain’s first World Cup title since their triumph in South Africa in 2010.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, FIFA announced the individual award winners, with Spain dominating the honours after their impressive campaign.

Spain midfielder Rodri was named the tournament’s Golden Ball winner as the best player, while goalkeeper Unai Simon claimed the Golden Glove award for his outstanding performances between the posts.

France captain Kylian Mbappe finished as the competition’s leading scorer to win the Golden Boot, despite Les Bleus falling short of the title.

Spain defender Pau Cubarsi was recognised as the tournament’s Best Young Player, highlighting his breakthrough performances throughout the competition.

The newly crowned world champions also received the Fair Play Award, capping off a remarkable tournament for Luis de la Fuente’s side.
