Ahead of Nigeria’s Unity Cup opener against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, head coach Éric Chelle is set to appoint a new captain for the match.

The decision comes as key leaders Wilfred Ndidi and Moses Simon have yet to report to camp.

Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho is emerging as a leading candidate to don the armband. The 25-year-old remains one of the longest-serving members of the Super Eagles squad, having made his senior debut in 2017.

With Ndidi and Simon’s absence, Chelle will rely on experience and leadership within the camp to guide Nigeria in their opening match of the tournament.
