The Union of African Club Leagues was officially launched on Saturday in Cairo, marking a significant step toward strengthening club football administration across the continent.

The historic gathering, held at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football, brought together representatives from key football nations who will serve as the founding members of the new body.

At the inaugural meeting, Egyptian football administrator Ahmed Diab was elected as the president of the Union of African Club Leagues, a role that will see him oversee the coordination and development of professional club competitions across Africa.

Eight countries were confirmed as founding members of the union: Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, Botswana, Uganda, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Zambia.

The newly established union is expected to play a key role in promoting collaboration among domestic leagues, improving governance structures, and enhancing the commercial growth of club football across the continent.

Further details regarding the operational framework and future competitions under the union are expected to be unveiled in the coming months.
